Restoring Proper Nerve Function
Most people know that the brain controls everything the body does–but not many people understand how it does that. It works like this: The brain sends messages by way of the nerves that travel through the spinal cord and then branch out, reaching every organ, tissue and cell of the body. The spinal cord is housed and protected by the spine, which is made up of several interlocking vertebral segments.
When things like poor posture, accidents or trauma, and even just wear and tear cause these segments to get stuck, it results in compression on the disc and nerves in that area, so messages to and from the brain are not delivered properly. When we adjust those specific areas and relieve the compression on the nerves, messages from the brain are communicated correctly and the organs and cells function as they’re supposed to.
Additionally, when there is compression on the nerves, it increases the cortisol levels in the organs controlled by those nerves. Excessive levels of cortisol in the body lead to early disease states, including heart disease. Regular chiropractic adjustments help to prevent disease by removing compression on the nerves and allowing cortisol levels to return to normal.
